FLUID MIXING AND AGITATION

In industrial processes involving chemical storage and synthetic liquids, it is crucial to keep the contents of a tank in continuous motion to prevent separation and sedimentation. These operations often require effective fluid mixing and agitation systems. Whether mixing multiple liquids or recirculating a single liquid to maintain homogeneity, systems can be significantly enhanced using eductor nozzles or rotating agitation nozzles.

Positioning Eductor Nozzles for Optimal Fluid Mixing

Proper positioning of eductor nozzles is essential to ensure complete and uniform agitation within a tank. Each eductor produces a narrow 12° conical jet stream of moving fluid—known as a mixing crest—which extends approximately 4.3 meters for every 1 bar of pressure drop.

For ideal performance

Mount eductors low in the tank and angle them upward to allow the crest to reach the opposite wall. This setup maximizes fluid turnover and encourages even mixing throughout the tank.
If complete sediment removal is critical, eductors should be angled downward to sweep the tank floor. In such configurations, the effective reach of the mixing crest should be considered half (2.15 meters/bar) due to floor drag.

To achieve comprehensive agitation

Use multiple eductors positioned to overlap spray patterns and avoid “dead zones” where sedimentation could occur.
Design nozzle placement to cover as much tank volume as possible, promoting thorough fluid circulation and preventing isolated stagnant areas.

Types of Fluid Mixing and Agitation Nozzles

Eductor Nozzles

Eductor Nozzles

Ideal for tank recirculation, sediment prevention, and bulk liquid movement.
Rotating Mixing Nozzles

Rotating Mixing Nozzles

Provide wide spray coverage with minimal pressure, used for general agitation.
Jet Mixing Nozzles

Jet Mixing Nozzles

Used in high-velocity mixing applications where deep penetration is needed.
Steam-Driven Eductors

Steam-Driven Eductors

Used in food and industrial sectors for simultaneous mixing and heating.

How Eductors Work

Eductors function by creating a high-velocity jet through a venturi-shaped nozzle.
Prevents settling of suspended solids
Maintains uniform chemical properties
Promotes efficient solid-liquid mixing
Reduces energy consumption

Optimal Eductor Placement

Each eductor produces a narrow 12° cone of moving liquid, extending about 4.3 meters per 1 bar of pressure.
Spray Angles: 30°, 45°, 60°, 90°, 120°
Flow Rates: 2 to 170 LPM at 2 to 10 bar pressure
Connections: 1/8" to 1/2" NPT / BSPT / BSP (Male & Female)

Key Benefits of Eductor-Based Mixing Systems

High Flow Multiplication: Each eductor can circulate up to 5 times the volume of pumped fluid, boosting efficiency.
Energy Saving: No moving parts means lower power consumption and minimal maintenance.
Enhanced Process Control: Promotes uniform temperature, pH levels, and chemical distribution throughout the tank.
Flexible Configuration: Eductors can be installed in new or existing tanks of any shape or size.
Safe for Hazardous Environments: Suitable for aggressive chemicals and explosive zones where mechanical mixers may not be safe.
